John Weis, N0UFB, District C Official Emergency Station, presided
over the monthly St. Louis County
ARES® meeting held on
June 21, 2004.
John introduced Bill Grobl, W0WJG. Bill said he represented Metro West Fire
Protection District. He said that the MWFPD and several other area
agencies had formed a core CERT (Community Emergency Reponse Team)
group. It is self-funded. A number of training classes had already
taken place and more were planned. They hoped to get about 300 participants.
The training sessions were targeted for area residents, but anyone
from the metropolitan area can sign up to attend. Bill said he had been
designated as the amateur radio contact, which is why he contacted
St. Louis County ARES®.
John polled the room and found that four people had already taken
CERT training.
John indicated that he would like to see a group of St. Louis County
ARES® operators up and running on
the HF bands as soon as possible.
There was some discussion about the various emergency communications
groups in the area and how it seemed that they had no interoperability.
Promotional buttons ("When All Else Fails .. Amateur Radio") were
dicussed. John would like to have some ready to distribute on Field Day.
