Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator, presided
over the monthly St. Louis County
ARES® meeting held on
September 20, 2004.
Steve said that the St. Louis County ARES®
group had 23 members on paper, but that far fewer than that participated.
Steve brought up the upcoming ARRL Simulated Emergency Test date. Gary
Hoffman, KB0H, passed out a proposed exercise. Steve accepted the
proposal (later called the "Resource Evaluation Test"). The date and
time were set as Saturday, October 2, 2004, from 1 PM to 1:30 PM.
Steve asked
Jeff Young, KB3HF (Emergency Coordinator for St. Charles County
ARES®) and Bill Grimsbo, N0PNP
(Assistant Emergency Coordinator for St. Charles County
ARES®) if they wanted to do a district-wide
exercise to follow the St. Louis County exercise. Jeff and Bill said they
would be willing to activate an HF net at 2 PM and take check-ins from
the various counties in District C.
Jeff asked if perhaps packet radio might be best for district-wide
operations. Steve replied that no one in St. Louis County
ARES® had packet at this time.
Jeff and Bill invited everyone to attend the St. Charles County
ARES® monthly meetings, held on
the second Thursday of each month at 7 PM.
Volunteers were solicited to act as field stations for the St. Louis
County ARES® exercise.
Eric Bueneman, N0UIH, agreed to be "ARES North".
Chuck Wehking, KC0QKS, agreed to be "ARES South".
Bob Ernst, KC0NRK, agreed to be "ARES West".
Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, agreed to be "ARES East".
Gary Hoffman, KB0H, agreed to be the Test Director on the 146.850
repeater. He will accumulate the totals and report to the district-wide
net at 2 PM.
Chuck suggested that if any field station suffered from interference, or
if his simplex frequency was busy, he should switch to the simplex
frequency used by the station at the opposite end of the county.
John Weis, N0UFB, recommended that next month;s meeting be dedicated to
strategy planning, getting ID cards done, and so forth.
