Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator, and John Weis, N0UFB,
Official Emergency Station appointed as advisor to the group presided
over the monthly St. Louis County
ARES® meeting held on
January 17, 2005.
John handed out a 'Planning Committee sheet' which outlined the purpose,
structure, and current operations of the Planning Committee. He said
that the group had, up until now, an informal planning committee
consisting of those members who showed up at the monthly meetings. He
now wanted to see a formal committee that met monthly, had a chairperson,
and would be initially concerned with increasing membership.
Gary, KB0H, Paul, K0AZV, and Kurt, KB0ZNJ, volunteered to be on the
Planning Committee.
Steve said that the group would have a table at the upcoming Winterfest
hamfest.
Steve handed out a list of weekly nets to which members should check in
and promote ARES®.
Steve passed out a calendar of events for 2005.
Steve said that Fred, W0UX, the DEC, would be the guest speaker at
the February meeting.
Steve said that everyone who checks into the weekly net receives a
personal note via email or postal mail.
Kurt asked if the ARRL helps fund the local
ARES® group. (The answer was 'no'.)
Kurt wondered about getting grants. Steve replied that we would
first need to obtain 501 (c)(3) status.
John said that he would be putting most of his energies into developing
the St. Louis City ARES® group. He
asked to be removed from the regular Net Controller roster. He said he
would like to see the reports from the Planning Committee meetings.
There was some discussion about the ARES®
Public Information Officer (PIO) position, prompted by a question
from Max, K0AZV.
Eric, N0UIH said that he had given ham radio promotions on the WSIE
radio station.
Kurt said that he was interested in digital modes and would like to
see more information about them made available.
