Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator, presided at the monthly
meeting of the
St. Louis County ARES® group on
September 19, 2005.
There was no presentation this month, so Steve gave a report of what
the group was doing. He said that membership was currently up to 46.
He said that he would be sending postcards to new licensees in the area
inviting them to join the group.
Steve noted that there were now four candidates for the position of
Missouri ARES® District-C Emergency Coordinator.
Steve said the St. Louis County ARES®
would be performing an alternate repeater test on Wednesday, September
21, 2005, immediately after the regular net. The alternate repeater is 147.060,
run by the Boeing Employees Amateur Radio Society.
Gary Hoffman, KB0H, the Assistant Emergency Coorindator (Operations) described
the Resource Evaluation Test (R.E.T.) that would be held on October 1, 2005.
He gave a brief history of the event and explain how this year there would be
six Field Operators instead of four, and that participants could use mobile radios
this year as long as they had independent power and were not attached to a vehicle.
He handed out instructions and scripts to the six volunteer Field Operators, then
asked if there were any questions. Eric Bueneman, N0UIH, suggested including in
the scripts that St. Louis County ARES®
would send QSL cards to anyone who participated in or monitored the R.E.T. Post
assignments were made, and Gary and the other volunteers agreed to hold a debriefing
of the event on October 8, 2005.
Craig Klimczak, K4LSU, noted that Saturday September 17, 2005 had been Amateur
Radio Awareness Day, and the ARRL had declared an "Emergency Power Operating Event".
Craig said that John Weis, N0UFB, had set up an emergency power station and information
booth at Barnes & Noble in Crestwood.
Ed Harris, KC0UKR, said he could obtain new emergency power batteries
for anyone who was interested for less than half the normal retail price.
