Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator, presided at the monthly
meeting of the
St. Louis County ARES® group on
November 21, 2005.
Steve said that he was still awaiting ARRL approval of the plan
to incorporate the group.
He said that he was now sending out postcards to newly licensed hams.
The postcards give information about St. Louis County ARES®.
Steve informed the attendees that starting with the January 2006 meeting, the
monthly St. Louis County ARES® meetings
would be held on the second Monday of the month instead of the
third Monday.
He noted that the group now has 52 members.
Steve said that there will be no December meeting per se, but there
will be a social get-together instead.
He also said that the group would have a table at Winterfest 2006.
Gary Hoffman, KB0H, said that St. Louis County ARES®
would be holding an exercise in early February 2006 called "Aftershock".
He described it will be a radio skills development exercise rather than
a field exercise, and hoped that many of the group's members would
volunteer to participate.
Steve said that the group would be holding short "Radio 101" presentations
at all meetings in addition to regular presentations.
Craig Hirsh, K0CMH, gave the first of these, which was about written
messages. His presentation was about ten minutes long and explained
why written messages, as opposed to verbal messages, are so important
in emergency communications. He will continue this series in future
meetings.
Steve said that "message handling kits" would be distributed at the
January meeting.
Chuck Wehking, KC0QKS, was the speaker this evening. He gave a presentation
on radio direction finding.
One last note, there is now a St. Louis County
ARES® Yahoo group, open to
ARES® members.
