Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator
presided over the monthly meeting of the
St. Louis County ARES® group on
April 9, 2007. The Meeting was held at Old Bonhomme School.
Steve said that the group currently has 63 members.
Steve noted the upcoming Dayton Hamvention and the Egyptian Hamfest.
Steve talked about the St. Louis County ARES
® simplex exercise, which will take place on
Saturday, April 21, 2007. The exercise will start at 1:00 PM local time
on 147.490 MHz. Those participants south of US40/I-64 will be part
of the South Net and will eventually move to 147.520 MHz. Participants
north of US40/I-64 will be part of the North Net and will eventually
move to 147.450 MHz. 147.490 MHz will be used at the beginning of the
exercise and to relay messages between the nets.
Steve said that Missouri District C ARES
® had started a Rapid Response Team.
Regarding the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Steve said that
they would be installing amateur radio antennas during April and May. He
also said that he hoped to conduct an exercise at the VAMC locations
some time during this summer.
Steve also said that the group was contemplating a summer or fall
outdoor exercise combined with a picnic.
Steve said that plans were underway to develop a map showing where
St. Louis County ARES® members
were located and what amateur radio resources they had.
Using a computer connected to the Internet, Steve took the attendees
on a 'tour' of the St. Louis County ARES®
Web site. He showed the various special pages, downloadable information,
and a peek inside the 'Members Only' section.
Steve noted that the Missouri Digital Group had a new digital repeater.
He said that there would be digital radio brochures at the
St. Louis County ARES® table at
the Zero Beaters Hamfest in Washington, Missouri.
