Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator
presided over the monthly meeting of the
St. Louis County ARES® group on
May 11, 2009. The Meeting was held at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.
Steve welcomed vistors and had everyone introduce themselves.
He said that St. Louis County
ARES® now had 92 members.
Steve said that he'd had no recent contact with the Veterans Administration
Medical Center. He would like, however, to borrow two of its stations, including
TNCs and laptops, so that the group can perform training and demonstrations.
Steve encouraged members to join the Planning Committee.
Steve thanked everyone who participated in the deployment exercise.
Photos taken by Tori Vernau, KC0EEP, were passed around. Steve said that
the District C Rapid Response Team also participated in the exercise and that
its members seemed pleased with it. Also, some staff at De Paul Hospital
noted our presence at the "north operations" site (the De Paul parking lot)
and thought that our group looked professional.
Steve said that he'd like to do another deployment exercise this year,
but perhaps indoors.
Steve noted that The Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Act of 2009
was in committee in Congress.
Steve mentioned that the St. Louis and Suburban Radio Club would be holding
an "After Dayton Picnic".
Craig Klimczak, K4LSU, gave a presentation on
Learning Unit 3 of the
ARECC Level 1 course.1
