Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator,
presided over the monthly meeting of the
St. Louis County ARES® group on
September 14, 2009. The Meeting was held at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.
As an attendance prize, Steve gave a copy of The ARRL Emergency
Communications Handbook to Paul Sherman, KD0CIW.
Steve said that St. Louis County
ARES® currently had 93 members. He gave
a brief outline of the new annual renewal/information-update process.
Steve said that STLCARES (St. Louis County Amateur Radio Emergency Service,
Inc) was seeking new officers. STLCARES is a non-profit corporation that
handles donations and finances for St. Louis County
ARES®.
Steve reminded everyone that St. Louis County
ARES®
would be holding its Field Station Demonstration and Simulated Emergency
Test on Saturday, October 10, 2009. It will be held in Queeny Park in
the same location as last year.
Steve said that St. Louis County ARES®
will have a table at the Halloween Hamfest, held on Saturday, October
31, 2009, at the Kirkwood Community Center.
Steve noted that St. Louis County ARES®
would be holding a Simplex Multi-Zone Exercise this Wednesday, September
16, 2009, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Exercise will take the place of
the normally scheduled weekly net.
Steve also noted that the
St. Louis County ARES®
weekly 2 meter digital net would now run from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM every
Wednesday evening.
September is Emergency Preparedness Month. The St. Louis & Suburban Radio
Club will hold an Emergency Communications Day on Saturday, September 19,
2009, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. It will be held at Stacy Park in
Olivette.
Steve will give a short presentation on St. Louis County
ARES®, and the group will have a
booth at the event.
Steve also mentioned that the
ARES®
group would have a booth set up at
the Zombie Squad Disaster Fair / Grove Fest on Saturday, September 19, 2009.
Steve said that Rick Crockett, W0PC, will hold a Level 1 ARECC (Amateur
Radio Emergency Communication Course) starting on October 28, 2009. The
class will be held at the St. Charles Community College. Contact Rick
