Minutes of the March 8, 2010 Meeting

Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator, presided over the monthly meeting of the St. Louis County ARES® group on March 8, 2010. The Meeting was held at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.

Steve welcomed everyone, acknowledged visitors, and had everyone introduce themselves. He said that the group now officially has 92 members.

Steve reminded everyone that the St. Louis County ARES® digital net (packet net) starts at approximately 8:00 PM on Wednesday eveninings and closes at about 9:00 PM. Anyone wishing to participate should tune to 145.070 MHz FM (simplex, no tones) and connect to "MSTL". This will get you into the Missouri Emergency Packet Network. Next, connect to N0ARS. Send your name, call sign, and any traffic or announcements that you have.

Steve said that all St. Louis County ARES® members now have access to the "Members Only" section of the group's Web site (www.stlares.org). The UserID is the member's call sign. He said members should contact him at KC0QMU@ARRL.NET to obtain their initial passwords. Members can change their passwords once they login.

Steve reported that the ARRL had adopted a proposal that set standards for ARES® apparel. He showed photos of the League's prototype safety vest.

Steve had new ARES® ID cards for those members who had sent him photographs.

Steve said that the first exercise for the year, a check-in exercise involving the Show-Me Intertie, had been cancelled. The event will be rescheduled once the High Hill repeater is back in operation.

The next exercise will be a message-handling event. A date has not yet been set.

Concerning St. Louis County ARES's® new Served Agencies, Steve said that the group has Memoranda Of Understanding (MOU) with the Bellefontaine Habilitation Center (BHC) and the St. Louis Developmental Disabilities Treatment Center (SLDDTC), which together have three facilities. It is anticipated that 2 to 3 ARES® operators will be needed at each facility when an emergency arises. Steve showed copies of the MOUs and the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) for the SLDDTC. An EOP is currently in the works for BHC.
