Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator,
presided over the monthly meeting of the
St. Louis County ARES® group on
April 12, 2010. The meeting was held at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.
Steve welcomed everyone, acknowledged visitors, and had everyone introduce
themselves. He said that the group now has 95 registered members. He said
that applications forms were available to anyone who wished one. He
explained that copies of the first page of the application are sent to
the Section Manager and Section Emergency Coordinator.
Steve said that
St. Louis County ARES®
accepts donations in various forms, including monetary, equipment, and
even stamps for mail-outs.
Steve accessed the St. Louis County
ARES®
Web site and projected an image of the "Members Only" main page. He said
that all members should have access to it. He said that some members had
reported problems getting there. He asked that anyone having such difficulties
please contact him.
Steve noted that the ARRL had adopted a proposal that set standards for
ARES®
apparel. He showed photos of the League's prototype safety vest. He said
that Barker Specialty Apparel should have the safety vests in stock
around June.
Steve briefly covered the St. Louis and Suburban Radio Club's upcoming
events.
Steve said that District C ARES®
had published an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), and that it could be
viewed on the Members Only section of our Web site. He said that our
group also had an EOP and that it, too, was on the Web site. He said that
various ARES® groups are trying to
get ready for the regional earthquake drill that will take place in 2011.
Steve said that Central County Emergency 911 had just signed a Memorandum
Of Understanding with our group. He listed the fire protection districts
that the agency handled.
Steve said that the St. Louis and Suburban Radio Club had invited us
to participate at their Field Day site this year. He said that we've
been asked to set up VHF packet stations. Jon Slough, KB9ATR, had just
arrived from the Field Day planning meeting and gave a summary of
what was going to take place. Mark Biernacki, KB5YZY, (president of SLSRC)
said that the event would be open to any and all who wished to participate
or simply attend.
Steve said that he hoped to organize a "get-to-know-packet" day.
Steve said that the High Hill repeater should be repaired within
the next week or two, so our exercise involving the Show-Me Intertie
will take place some time in May.
Steve said that our group will hold a message-handling exercise some
time in June. Both the ARRL NTS traffic form and the FEMA ICS-213
message form will be used.
Craig Klimczak, K4LSU, gave a presentation on
ARECC Level 1, chapter 9.1
