Steve Wooten, KC0QMU, the Emergency Coordinator,
presided over the monthly meeting of the
St. Louis County ARES® group on
June 14, 2010. The meeting was held at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.
Steve welcomed everyone, acknowledged visitors, and had everyone introduce
themselves.
Steve said that all members should regularly check the Members Only
section of the
St. Louis County ARES®
Web site. Members having difficulties accessing that section should
contact him right away.
Steve said that the message handling exercise had been postponed because
June was full of conflicting activities. He said that there are plans
to hold packet radio demonstration at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital
in July. He also anticipates a full-scale exercise with some or all of
the group's Served Agencies later this year.
Steve said that the District Emergency Coordinator would like members of
our group to read the District C Emergency Operations Plan. It is available
in the Members Only section.
Steve said that St. Louis County
ARES®
will have stations at the St. Louis and Suburban Radio Club Field Day
site. We will be demonstrating VHF/UHF digital modes. He asked for
volunteers to help man the stations.
Gateway Electronics will be celebrating its 50th birthday later this week.
The Central States VHF Society will hold its 44th annual conference
here in St. Louis on July 22-24.
Bill Wallace, KC0TGY, gave a demonstration of a High-Speed MultiMedia
system. He showed how email, telephone, and video could be provided
without accessing the Internet. He asked for assistance in developing
the system further.
Nine salvaged 12 volt power supplies with built-in batteries were
given away.
