Weekly 2 meter digital net
Packet Radio Mode
St. Louis County ARES® holds a
digital net on Wednesday evenings from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The digital net is on 145.070 MHz FM (digipeater, but use the
same frequency for input and output) using packet radio protocols.
This net is primarily a learning and teaching event.
No one expects you to know everything. Many people have some difficulty
configuring their hardware and software. Feel free to ask questions (try the
146.850 repeater, someone is usually monitoring). We also discuss digital
issues and problems at the monthly
St. Louis County ARES® meetings
and during special digital workshops.
You are welcome to participate
This is an open net and all amateur radio operators are welcome to
join in, regardless of their level of expertise.
The basic computer software is free
The basic software used during the St. Louis County
ARES® digital net is free. Basic terminal
software called Hyperterm can be found on your Windows operating system. That
is all you need to connect to the digital net.
More sophisticated programs (AGWPacketPro and AGWTerm) can be purchased
(see the Resources page and look under
Digital equipment and information).
Help is available
If you cannot make any of the monthly
St. Louis County ARES® meetings
or any of the special digital workshops, you may contact
Jim Conley, N0OBG, or
Craig Klimczak, K4LSU and ask for help.

Packet Net Procedures
To participate in the packet net, just connect to the Missouri Emergency
Packet Network (145.070 MHz FM, no tones) (type C MSTL. Do not go into
"talk" mode. Type MH to get a list of who is connected to MEPN.
If you see "N0ARS" (N0ARS-1, N0ARS-2, etc), that is the St. Louis County
ARES®
Net Control operator. Connect to him/her by typing in C N0ARS.
Send a message to N0ARS stating your location and any message you wish
to convey. You may not receive a reply. Although the N0ARS station
will be connected, it may not be attended. If you send a message, however,
you will be logged as having participated.
Packet Net Help
Craig Klimczak, K4LSU, has written a guide for connecting to and operating
on the Missouri Emergency Packet Network. He gave a presentation about it
at the October 13, 2008 St. Louis County
ARES® meeting. Here is the presentation. Powerpoint format1

like to thank the owners and operators of the Missouri
